Scoil Íosa is committed to promoting the health and wellbeing of all our pupils. We aim to provide a safe, supportive and positive environment where children learn the importance of healthy eating and making good choices for their wellbeing both in and out of school.
In line with our Healthy Eating / Healthy Break Policy, children are encouraged to bring a healthy snack for small break each day.
Suitable foods for small break include:
- Fruit
- Vegetables
- Milk
- Water
- Crackers and cheese
- Yoghurts
Lunch Time
Children should bring a well-balanced lunch, chocolate, sweets, crisps and fizzy drinks are not permitted.
Choking Safety Guidance
In line with public health guidance, grapes and other small fruits or vegetables should be cut or sliced, particularly for younger children. For safety reasons, we ask that grapes and cherry tomatoes are only brought to school if they are chopped.

Nut-Free School
To protect children with allergies, Scoil Íosa is a Nut-Free School.
Parents are asked not to include nuts, peanuts, or foods containing nuts in their child’s lunch or snack. This includes items such as nut spreads, nut yoghurts, cereal bars containing nuts, and similar products. Please check food labels carefully.
We appreciate the support of parents and guardians in helping us maintain a healthy and safe environment for all children in Scoil Íosa.
